Life

“Tell me, what …

“Tell me, what is it you plan to do

with your one wild and precious life?”

-Mary Oliver

I originally posted this quote four years ago and I think about it often. As with any new year, one tends to take stock of the previous year and think about what they want to change for the upcoming one. The older we get, the more we focus on this “one wild and precious life.” We promise ourselves into disappointment every year; bygone internal commitments that tend to fall apart two weeks in.

Therefore, my esteemed readers (of which maybe there are one or two), I have stopped making resolutions. What is this life but a smattering of experiences with varied outcomes that ultimately change our own commitments and expectations? I view resolutions as an end result of many small daily choices and the human in me rather focus on those than the overall end result; what is life if not the journey.

Therefore, I will continue to try and focus on the choices that happen every day, stop worrying about whether or not that negates or bolsters a “resolution” and get this shit done every single day.
